cPanel includes a basic image management tool that lets you view thumbnails, resize images, and convert image formats directly on the server without downloading them first.

Please note: Screens and options may vary slightly depending on your cPanel version and hosting plan.

Accessing the Images Tool

  1. Log in to your cPanel account.
  2. In the Files section, click Images.

Available Features

Thumbnailer

Creates thumbnail versions of images in a directory.

  1. Click Thumbnailer.
  2. Navigate to the folder containing your images.
  3. Select the folder.
  4. Set the Scale Percent (e.g. 25% creates a thumbnail one-quarter of the original size).
  5. Click Thumbnail Images.

Thumbnails are saved in a tn_ subfolder within the selected directory.

Image Scaler

Resizes an individual image to specific dimensions.

  1. Click Scaler.
  2. Navigate to and select the image.
  3. Enter the new dimensions (width and/or height). If you adjust one, the other can be calculated proportionally.
  4. Click Scale Image.

The original file is overwritten with the resized version. Back up the original first if you need to keep it.

Image Converter

Converts images between formats (e.g. PNG to JPG, GIF to PNG).

  1. Click Converter.
  2. Navigate to the folder containing images.
  3. Select the destination file type.
  4. Click Convert.

Tips

  • For bulk image optimisation or more advanced editing, consider using dedicated tools like ImageMagick (available via SSH) or optimising images locally before uploading.
  • Always keep a backup of original images before resizing or converting, as these operations may be destructive.
  • Optimising image file sizes can significantly improve your website's loading speed.
