The Backup Wizard provides a simplified, step-by-step interface for creating and restoring backups. It offers the same functionality as the main Backup page but guides you through the process one step at a time.
Please note: Screens and options may vary slightly depending on your cPanel version and hosting plan.
Accessing the Backup Wizard
- Log in to your cPanel account.
- In the Files section, click Backup Wizard.
Creating a Backup
- Click Back Up.
- Choose the type of backup:
- Full Backup — Everything in your account (files, databases, email, settings). Note: full backups cannot be self-restored via cPanel. - Home Directory — All files in your home folder. - MySQL Databases — A specific database. - Email Forwarders & Filters — Configuration for a specific domain.
- Follow the prompts to generate or download the backup.
Restoring from a Backup
- Click Restore.
- Choose what to restore:
- Home Directory — Restore files. - MySQL Databases — Restore a database from an SQL dump. - Email Forwarders & Filters — Restore email configuration.
- Click Choose File, select your backup file, and click Upload.
- The wizard will process the restore and confirm when complete.
Tips
- The Backup Wizard and the Backup page provide the same functionality — use whichever interface you prefer.
- For routine backups, consider setting up automated backups using a cron job or your hosting provider's backup solution (e.g. JetBackup).
- Always verify your backup was successful by checking the downloaded file isn't empty or corrupted.
