The Backup Wizard provides a simplified, step-by-step interface for creating and restoring backups. It offers the same functionality as the main Backup page but guides you through the process one step at a time.

Please note: Screens and options may vary slightly depending on your cPanel version and hosting plan.

Accessing the Backup Wizard

  1. Log in to your cPanel account.
  2. In the Files section, click Backup Wizard.

Creating a Backup

  1. Click Back Up.
  2. Choose the type of backup:

- Full Backup — Everything in your account (files, databases, email, settings). Note: full backups cannot be self-restored via cPanel. - Home Directory — All files in your home folder. - MySQL Databases — A specific database. - Email Forwarders & Filters — Configuration for a specific domain.

  1. Follow the prompts to generate or download the backup.

Restoring from a Backup

  1. Click Restore.
  2. Choose what to restore:

- Home Directory — Restore files. - MySQL Databases — Restore a database from an SQL dump. - Email Forwarders & Filters — Restore email configuration.

  1. Click Choose File, select your backup file, and click Upload.
  2. The wizard will process the restore and confirm when complete.

Tips

  • The Backup Wizard and the Backup page provide the same functionality — use whichever interface you prefer.
  • For routine backups, consider setting up automated backups using a cron job or your hosting provider's backup solution (e.g. JetBackup).
  • Always verify your backup was successful by checking the downloaded file isn't empty or corrupted.
