How to Change Your Email Password

You should change your email password regularly, and immediately if you suspect it may have been compromised. There are two ways to change an email password — through cPanel, or through Webmail.

Please note: Screens and options may vary slightly depending on your cPanel version and hosting plan.

When You Would Use This

Change your email password regularly as good security practice, and immediately if you suspect the account has been compromised or is sending spam.

Method 1: Via cPanel (Account Administrator)

  1. Log in to your cPanel account.
  2. In the Email section, click Email Accounts.
  3. Find the email account you want to update.
  4. Click Manage next to the account.
  5. In the Security section, enter a new password or click Generate to create a strong one.
  6. Click Update Email Settings.

Method 2: Via Webmail (Email User)

If you are an email user without cPanel access, you can change your own password:

  1. Log in to Webmail at https://yourdomain.com/webmail or https://yourdomain.com:2096.
  2. Click the cog/gear icon or navigate to Password & Security.
  3. Enter your current password, then your new password twice.
  4. Click Save.

Tips

  • After changing a password, you'll need to update it in any email clients (Outlook, Thunderbird, phone, etc.) that are configured to use that account.
  • Use a password manager to generate and store complex passwords.
  • If an account has been sending spam, change the password immediately and review the account for any unauthorised email filters or forwarders that may have been created.
